At Sunnybrook, we foster a lifelong love of swimming and want every member who wishes to become a confident swimmer to have access to quality instruction. While our space and time availability for lessons are limited, we are hoping to provide opportunities that will help as many interested swimmers and divers as possible.
This season Sunnybrook is offering both Group Swim Lessons and a newly organized Private Swim Lesson Request Process
Group Swim Lessons
We’re thrilled to announce that our Assistant Manager, Jessie Davy, will be leading this year’s swim lesson program! Jessie brings over 20 years of experience teaching swimmers of all ages. She is certified as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and is also a certified First Aid/CPR Instructor. With her expertise and passion, Jessie is looking forward to introducing fresh ideas to help your children learn to swim confidently and stay safe in the water.
- Frequency: One 30-minute lesson per week, Monday–Friday
- Time: Between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM
- Session Dates: June 23rd – July 25th (5 weeks)
- Make-Up Week: July 28th – August 1st
- Cost: $75 for members | $150 for non-members
- Location: all group swim lessons are held at the shallow end of the Upper Pool
Beginner Group: Starfish (Typically Ages 3–5)
For potty-trained children up to age 5
The Starfish group is ideal for younger swimmers who are just starting out. This class helps children become comfortable in the water without a parent and introduces basic swimming skills. Starfish will learn how to safely enter and exit the pool, submerge their face in the water, and move through the water using flotation aids or instructor support. By the end of the session, children will work toward independently swimming short distances
Intermediate Group: Duckies (Typically Ages 5+)
For swimmers ready to build on basic skills
This level introduces young swimmers to basic swimming techniques in a fun and supportive environment. Duckies will start to explore freestyle and backstroke movements while becoming more comfortable and confident in the water. The class encourages continued development of coordination and independence.
How to Register for Group Swim Lessons
When signing up your swimmer for lessons, you’ll select:
-
A Skill Level – Choose the appropriate group based on your child’s swimming ability (e.g., Beginner/Starfish, Intermediate/Duckies,).
-
A Day of the Week – Pick the day that works best for your schedule (Monday through Friday).
-
A Time Slot – Select a specific lesson time (e.g., 9:00 AM, 9:30 AM, etc.). This day and time will remain the same each week for the duration of the session.
Please arrive 10 minutes before your lesson to ensure your swimmer is ready to hop in as soon as the lesson starts
Private Swim & Dive Instruction
To ensure Sunnybrook remains enjoyable and accessible for all members, we’ve established a structured process for requesting private swim instruction.
What You Need to Know:
- Registration Process: To request lessons, *paid members must complete a brief registration form. This allows instructors to review requests and match swimmers with the right instructor based on availability and goals.
- Lesson Availability: Due to space constraints, private lessons are limited and scheduled around general pool usage and instructor availability
- Registration Fee: A one-time $25 registration fee helps support operational costs associated with time spent coordinating private lessons and consistent pool management.
- Instructor Matching: Instructors have access to lesson request submissions and will reach out directly to the interested member to arrange schedules.
- Pricing: While Sunnybrook provides suggested pricing guidelines, all final rates and payment schedules are to be coordinated directly between the member and instructor.
Please Note:
Private swim and dive instructors at Sunnybrook Swim Club are not employed by the club in this capacity. They operate independently, and all instruction is arranged directly between the instructor and the member. This includes scheduling, payment beyond the registration process. Sunnybrook Swim Club is not responsible for any private instructional agreements.
We’re excited to help your swimmer grow in skill and confidence! Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all Sunnybrook families.
